Hellooo! I’m Irma, plant parent, lamp lover, and mug collector. Inspired by everyday things around me, I pull colors and subject matter from whatever I find quirky and bright. From decorating my cozy apartment to designing illustrations, my goal is to infuse charm and character into the worlds I create.

What’s a piece of advice you want to share?

Whenever I'm hitting a bump and a piece isn't feeling like me, I think about the things that I've chosen to surround me: my living room's decor, the trinkets on my shelves, the specific plants I've collected, my Beetle car, etc. They are the colors, patterns, and shapes that I enjoy and define my taste - I can pull in that same decision making into my designs.

What industry trends are you excited about?

I’ve been really loving the use of elaborate, creative type in music videos, especially Sabrina Carpenter’s. One of my favorites is the ‘Espresso’ title sunburned onto a person in her ‘Espresso’ music video.

Favorite Scholar Project?

North Carolina Education Lottery! There’s so many magical bits across the entire campaign. Charming characters, clever transitions, and bold designs.

How do you balance commercial considerations with your artistic vision?

For every project, I hold the client’s brief and their dream as the guiding north star. That said, it can be really easy to lose yourself and have things feeling dry. I remind myself that they came to us to collaborate and add our Scholarly pizazz, not just give back what they asked for. So I ask myself how can we go above and beyond, reinvent the ideas, and bring something new that surprises both us at Scholar and the client?
